If you're willing to risk not having overhead space, I keep on the lookout for *any* instant (pre-prepared) food concession with no line on the way to the gate.

I also sometimes have breakfast bars stashed away in my briefcase.

Or bananas from the free breakfast at the hotel - or shortbread cookies from the UC. (I know, I'm bad)
