Denis, I think on ua.com in your profile there is an option to set a telephone contact number as a mobile number (as opposed to home, or work for example). If you do that, and select that number as the way to contact you, instead of email as the primary mode of contact, the site states that a text alert will be sent to you.
I haven't flown or tried to upgrade anything since I set up my new profile, so I have to admit that I'm not sure it actually works as advertised.

I have my mobile selected, however the FAQs say that only flight changes (delays, cancellations, gate change, etc) will be delivered. Nothing about upgrades.
