Well then what if you're connecting to another Oneworld partner like AA? Would that be trustworthy enough to checkin a back from HKG all the way to DFW?
I regularly do AA-CX interline baggage check and it works fine. Most recently I flew ORD-YYZ-HKG and I had to clear Canadian customs at YYZ and put my bags on the transfer belt.
Not only did my bags arrive in HKG without problems, but after I put them back on the transfer belt at YYZ, someone at CX had found my bag and put a CX J Class priority baggage label on it. ^
