If you have no other collectible insurance, the free car-rental insurance provided by your credit card becomes primary coverage.

Since coverage varies from issuer to issuer -- and even from card to card issued by the same issuer -- it is always best to consult the written description of coverage that came with your card, and/or call the card issuer for clarification.
