I am actually curious about this too...what is the policy for change after departure. Is it:

1 - not allowed, period (very few exceptions apply)
2 - allowed if the remaining legs are on UA only

Booking 2 oneways takes away the free stopover.

Also, the webpage says:

When flying with one of our Star Alliance partners, changes must be made at least 24 hours before departure.

Does that mean:

1 - I cannot book a *A flight within 24 hours of departure and
2 - I cannot cancel a *A flight within 24 hours of departure (thus losing the ticket)?
