The US side apparently has validation logic for what constitutes a UA MP #, and that validation logic is simple: 11 numeric digits. Hence the new "MP" #s don't work, because they're 8 alphanumeric characters.
If UA had kept 11-digit MP #s, there would have been no problem.
If US had updated their systems so that they allowed 8-character alphanumeric MP #s, there would have been no problem.
For a short time (I'm hoping we're talking several months vs. several weeks), the old UA MP # should work for situations like this where the partner doesn't accept OP #s as being Mileage Plus accounts.
I'm not so sure that's correct. This problem was happening in January prior to the cutover.
When I was traveling US Airways in January, I was using my CO OnePass number and it worked fine at the beginning of the trip and then later on the return Star Gold went away.
