Sounds to me like the OP may be measuring time relative to productivity. In that case, most of these examples must seem senseless to him but they make all the sense in the world to those who do them. No right or wrong here, just personal decisions about how to apply their own time.
I probably measure time relative to purpose, not productivity. Ends justify the means kind of thing. And I agree, there is no right or wrong way, even if my personal decisions and purposes are not the same as other people's. We all find joy in different things.
