I noticed that it states you can upgrade to a suite for 6000 points (for 4 days).

As long it does not past 30 April 2012, you will be able to enjoy the promotion. May is obviously not April


4) Is it a specific rate that you have to use to get the upgrades - Am thinking of the "taste and stay" at the park rate.
Taste and Stay Package will work. Hyatt Daily Rate is just the minimum amount that you need to pay to use the upgrade.

5)Finally, is there any chance of being upgraded on check in despite my lowly status
Yes, but highly unlikely.
