It's more "mickey mouse" than you may think: It was purchased from Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI). It's the same system used for the Tomorrowland Transit Authority at the Magic Kingdom in Florida. It's one of a handful of projects that WDI has done under contract outside of the Disney theme parks (another being the remodeling of the iconic "theme building" at LAX).
I walked it last year and was only about 20 steps behind it at E when I started in A.
I find that hard to believe. The underground tunnel (both the pedestrian walkway and the adjacent train) is almost a mile from A to E. Even though it's slow by train standards and makes stops, it still moves much faster than walking pace. Unless you got a long head start or there was a stoppage, I don't see how you could keep up with the train on foot for a mile.
