Re: Questions about Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista
BJfly-
1) My experience at this hotel has been that they don't have queen beds; only 1 king bed or 2 double beds in the standard rooms. The rooms are on the small side and 2 queen beds would not fit. As for an upgrade, your chances vary, but I have not had much luck in being upgraded.
2) When I stayed at the hotel a few months ago, my room was on the Executive Floor which provided me with access to the lounge daily for breakfast. The lounge is not open past breakfast, however. So, if you are HHonors Diamond, you will be guaranteed lounge access regardless of which floor your room is on. If you are HHonors Gold, you will receive the breakfast vouchers at check-in to be used in the hotel's main restaurant on the lobby level. The executive lounge offerings for breakfast are nothing to write home about. In my opinion, the extra money you would pay to secure a room on the Executive Floor is not worth what you would receive in terms of breakfast. Aside from the breakfast vouchers, though, the hotel's food and beverage outlets are on the more expensive side.
3) There is not too much new here. The hotel was bought by Hilton a year or so ago. There were rumblings about Hilton converting it to a Conrad, but I have not heard any such rumors lately. The second floor meeting areas are being renovated and look very nice. During my stay a few months ago, I overheard some workers talk about a remodel (not sure if that was hallways and rooms or just hallways). Parts of the property are starting to show their age, but I found the hotel to be clean and comfortable. The staff were very professional and courteous. The common areas are very nice and because many of the hotel guests are convention-goers, the common areas (i.e., pool/hot tub/fitness center) are not too crowded.
Have a great stay!
PS- Also note this is the only property on Hotel Plaza Boulevard to offer "Extra Magic Hours" at the parks.
