liberty hotel Boston
The FHR rate was $50 higher than the starpicks rate available directly from Starwood but $50 less than the refundable Best available rate thru SPG. I booked FHR for the amenities and also I wanted to preserve the option to cancel.
No special recognition at check in. Booked a deluxe room. Got a grand deluxe city view. I think the rooms are the same size but it is technically an upgrade to a higher room with a view. I might have gotten the same room for my SPG gold status. The rooms are spacious and relatively new. I am satisfied but not wowed by the FHR upgrade benefit here.
I had to ask about the FHR meal and breakfast amenity. She was surprised that it wasn't pre arranged in my check in materials and said usually they have that set. She asked if I had booked today and wondered if that was the reason (no booked a few days ago). She went back and got a dinner and breakfast voucher at Clink for me. No big deal.
Dinner voucher does not include alcohol and gratuity but otherwise doesn't seem to have any restriction. I presented it to the host and the server seemed familiar with it. I had a nice mussels appetizer and pasta main. I could have had dessert and perhaps some other sides as well. The food was better than standard hotel fare and service was efficient. voucher can also be used for in-room dining.
Breakfast voucher does include gratuity. Was able to order anything off the menu. Service as fast and better than a typical hotel breakfast. Can also be used for in room dining. Didn't seem to have a limit.
the hotel is very conveniently located to the T. it is a nice looking place that was a former jail. I can see how it's the trendy place on weekends.
FHR was worth it for me because it saved me from going out in the cold to find a dinner spot after checking in the evening. But if you are staying multiple nights and/or not eating at Clink then the $50/night premium is prob not worth it esp if you have elite SPG status anyway.
wifi is free for everyone and it is pretty fast and reliable. I noticed they have an option to decline next day's housekeeping for a $5 credit or 500 Starwood points.

Reason: room technically was an upgrade
