I would like to see a motion that Flyertalk prominently displays on the Flyertalk home page, and at the top of Omni, that Omni is secondary to the travel forums on Flyertalk and that Flyertalk exists for travelers. Omni exists only for topics that fall outside of travel and those topics are not what this board is about. I don't know how motions work here, but if someone could present this for a vote I would be grateful.
Hi stimpy!

I used to feel like you do. Hell, at one point I thought it would be a good idea to restrict FlyerTalk to those with actual status on airlines. Or have a private forum for those with BIS status. You know, a place for REAL flyers, not fake credit card mile collectors.

But over time I have come to see that different people have a different perspective on the points and miles game. And on what FlyerTalk is to them.

That led me to become a lot more liberal and egalitarian in my thinking, including viewing OMNI as an equal part of this online community. After all, you and I are friends because of flying. But when you and I drink wine in Burgundy or beer in London we talk about a lot more than just flying and points and miles and hotels. And so it is that although FlyerTalk brings flyers and credit carders and travelers together on this IBB, fact is that once here, we may want to talk about things other than flying points and miles.

And the thing is, people's lives change. Some of my best friends from FT have stopped traveling. That doesn't mean I don't still value their opinions and comradeship. And so it is with OMNI. Just because someone retires from the road warrior life doesn't mean I don't care to commiserate with them about Brachel getting cast on The Amazing Race, or talk college football with them.

There are plenty of places on FT for us to get our flyer freak on. But sometimes it's nice to put the freak flag down and talk about other stuff with folks with whom we have something so fundamentally important in common.

Anyway, that's my take on why OMNI is as important a part of FT as any pure travel forum.

Of course, what else would you expect from an ENFP?!!? My wife, the INTJ thinks OMNI is a stupid waste of space and time.
