I once toured the Celestial Seasonings Tea plant in Boulder, Colorado...they were saying they sourced tea from more than 50 countries. I thought at the time (years ago) this would have been a great job - to be a tea buyer. For tea plantations are in remote places too and a variety of countries..as opposed to say a buyer (For widget X) who mainly goes to one region/one country - for example only China or India or Vietnam, and has to deal with lots of industrial places, etc...or consultants who might travel alot -- but usually to the same city (Might be unpleasant / not interesting too) for a certain period of time.
Though I'd imagine tea buyers would have regional responsibilities. Have independently been to tea plantations in Sri Lanka and Malaysia (After that CS visit) ...enjoyable journeys. Though I don't drink tea any more...so ..."not my cup of tea" anymore. Coffee buyer would be similar too I reckon...but then...I don't like coffee anymore either.
I used to work in the In-Flight Entertainment (IFE) industry...and one individual in particular in technical marketing was rolling up the mileage to visit sales folks on airline sales calls literally everywhere it seems (Something I did sporadically - though nowhere near his job requirement) -- though he flew so much it did affect his health I reckoned in a negative manner.
I always thought 15-20% travel for job would be ideal --- in my corporate days long past. Any less - not enough, anymore -- too much impact on home life per se.
