+1. Your best and safest bet is to call and ask what the fare difference would be if you dropped the last segment. It gets real messy and possibly really costly as you may end up paying for a Y ticket for your return ticket back.
Even if you claim medical issues -- they probably say you are out of luck unless if you purchased trip insurance (even then, i'm not 100% sure what they cover) -- trip insurance requires proof as well.
