If this accurate, it is beyond appalling that United would charge their FF'ers more than GM for a buy up. Quite frankly, under these circumstances it would be smarter to be a GM (or not even have a MP account), get the MP explorer card for bags and boarding purposes, and get your upgrades cheaper at check in.
