Cleverly written, but is evidence that different passengers receive different prices. It's also clear that they are NOT being transparent if higher elite status means higher or lower offering prices. Given the $629 buy up price on this leg, I'm guessing higher.

I think it means that for the elite buy-up offer, if there is a plat on the reservation, all passengers pay fare difference to M instead of the normal fare difference to B.

And if no elites are on the reservation, the price at check-in is whatever CO thinks the market clearing price is, which is probably much below the fare difference to M. In the other thread referenced a couple pages ago I think UAInsider admitted that the check-in buy-up for general members is not the price for an actual buy-up to an upgradeable fare.
