That's exactly why I'm considering SPG vs Hilton -- the high end properties, especially in the US, seem to be much better than Hilton's. However, I do like like Hiltons properties abroad best... tough choice :-/
I think I'm going to stick with Hilton until I hear of a good deal otherwise. It's painful to rack up all my points in less than adequate Hamptons, HGI's and occasionally mediocre Doubletrees (I prefer Embassy Suites and Hilton) but the payout seems to be best, especially when redeeming abroad. Redeeming in the US is a waste - 65k points for a NYC hotel is too high.
