I am not a sushi fan so I can't help w/ the sushi plans
if oyu are coming form the airport on the train (CalTrain)Thirsty Bear is fairly close...
for Thai, Cha Am is at I believe 4th and Folsom whoich is fairly close..excellent thai in a white tablecloth kind of way (but not stuffy)
Basil is new-age thai and VERY good on Folsom and 7th... a little hipper , might be crowded
a branch of North Beach Pizza (I have never been to this branch on Harrison and 3rd) which is the place we had mjm's pizza party last year
If it's not a huge crowd (like 6 or less) you might want to try an almost-only-in-Sf treat and have a burger and sandwich (and beer) at BrainWash, 's only laundromat -cum-cafe . Food served til 10 pm and there's sometimes music also. FOlsom and 7th? 9th? I forget...
Manora thai is also good
you might want to consider Hayes Valley - near the civic center and opera house - there's a Thai place, couple of italian places owned by the same owner (Delle Stelle andStelline) which are both likely to be VERY crowded and you should make a rez; ra funky chicken and ribs place (Powell's Place) ; a chinese place (Sage) a quieter california cuisine (Blue Muse) a very fancy california cuisine lpace (Absinthe - bring the company expense account) and a belgian french Fries coffee house (Fritjz). there's also an Italian place, BORGO, on fell St near all these places that I have been told is very good but i have never been there.
No place in SF is a very expensive cab ride from any other place really...
