I usually book whatever is cheapest. Looking at past boarding pass, I book mostly Y or K.
(3) How many miles do you usually fly each year?
<25K, but occasionally 25K-50K.
(4) Do you have any kind of status at present? What is it?
I do not.
(5) What is most important to you in a FFP?
In order of importance
1. Good award redemption rates
2. Frequent upgrades on travel
3. Free Lounge access
(6) Which routes do you fly most often
Transpacific: BKK, HKG, and SIN
(7) Preferred Airlines
None really. Maybe Cathay due to convenience of multiple stops of my trip. Typically LAX -> BKK -> HKG -> LAX
(8) Do you travel for work or pleasure?
Pleasure.
I would be getting miles mostly through spending and sign-up bonuses like Chase Sapphire cards.
The route I fly most often would be:
LAX -> BKK -> HKG -> LAX
or
LAX -> SIN -> BKK -> LAX
or
LAX -> SIN -> LAX
LAX -> HKG -> LAX
LAX -> BKK -> LAX
What's your recommendation?
With 25K miles per year or so...its difficult to expect frequent upgrades.
However, in the rare event, there may be operational upgrades.
For your flying pattern, I suggest you give your loyalty to TG (Thai; Star Alliance) or CX (Cathay, OneWorld).
Then, you at least stand a shot at some operational upgrades.
With Thai, you will reach Star Silver with 25K. This means almost nothing in the Star Alliance. You need 50K with TG for Star Gold, which gets you lounge access.
If lounge access is much more important, then choose Aegean Airlines (A3).
