Are gate assignments random or do they have a pattern?
We're flying via HKG next year and I was reading up on the ins and outs, especially the very good FAQ in this forum. Of particular interest was the information about the people mover direction restricted to arriving or departing pax and its impact on what lounge you should use.
I looked for a source of arrival gate information to see if I could identify a trend in gate assignments, e.g. flight XYZ usually gets assigned to gates 60 - 70. I couldn't find this data anywhere and found an old thread here where someone was looking for the same thing and was told that it is not available.
On a related subject, we'll be arriving in CX F and have opted for a four-hour layover before departing in KA F. we'd like to use a cabana in The Pier lounge but if our departing flight is from terminal 2, i'm beginning to wonder if it would be worth the hassle of walking all the way back despite having the time. We would like to have a look around the airport, at the shops, etc., as well.
So just out of curiosity, I was wondering what area of the airport CX889 (from YVR) would be likely to arrive at and from what area KA804 (to PVG) would be likely to depart from.
