Not sure I entirely understand your premise. The card is free the first year and there is no charge for the authorized user the first year either. I will not continue to have my wife on the card as an authorized user the 2nd year. In fact, if they don't waive the fee for me, there may not be a second year.
As far as having my wife have her own card, this was a targeted offer and she would not be eligible for the bonus points. What would be the difference if she had her own card and accumulated points or they all go on one card?
