As it happens I do have "some notion of the mathematical concepts" I'm talking about as I frequently review analytical chemistry manuscripts for journals, and they mostly involve statistical analysis. I reject the ones that try to use statistics to make conclusions from correlations that are coincidental, such as your post. Meat eating cannot be said to be responsible for longer lifespan simply because societies with a high meat consumption live longer.
