Not every show has to be a "thinking" show like Mad Men. Sometimes, you just want to veg in front of the TV and look at pretty things for an hour.

If you want to veg out, you should go all the way like I do and watch professional wrestling. Those guys are always pushing the stupidity/fluff envelope. Roland Barthes, one of the greatest French philosophers of this century wrote an elegant essay praising professional wrestling.

PS I too am a child of New York 60's and recall the excitement of flying/ going to Idlewild airport. I'll admit, the show does give a little of this flavor.
