I just made some changes to an existing ticket (new flights on CO, TG, LH and US) and fortunately was not charged any fuel surcharges. It did take over half an hour for the agent to recalculate the taxes.
In the end I came out even, $12 in new taxes, $90 change fee and a $120 refund (took out AC legs). I am sad that BKK-HND-FRA exceeds MPM though because I wanted to try and get on the 787 but I will have to make do in the 9W suites on TG.
So if you have a complicated itinerary I would make changes now if you have them because not all agents may be aware of these new fees at this time.
I have been surprised by AE in the past where the agents have said one price and the ticket actually comes with a different price. Ticketing ends up recalculating surcharges before issuing the ticket and then charge your credit card so keep a close eye on that for the next little while.
