WAS-WAS wouldn't work. I think they group airports into regions then apply the same rules to flights in that region. For example, if WAS and PHL were in the same region you would get:

WAS-WAS/PHX/PHL/CLT/BOS-LAX

PHL-WAS/PHX/PHL/CLT/BOS-LAX

Of course this copy/paste routing rule style gets airlines into trouble sometimes like the DEN-LAX via CLE fare I posted last fall.
