It was either flying longer in SQ in Y vs AC in J using eUpgrades. I did take a risk with the latter and I was lucky.
If I had known that I had no chance of getting J using eUpgrades, I would have opted for SQ via LAX or SFO. One thing about SQ I noticed was the huge fuel surcharge they are tagging on. Usually SQ tickets are about $1900 ai for Q Class (No mileage) and probably another $200 more for W class (for 100% Mileage) vs less than $1500 for AC flights via HKG, NRT, PVG or PEK with 100 Mileage... I guess if you want to fly longer in SQ, be prepared to pay the premium....
