With that said, I would recommend not making any Do hotel reservations until after the room blocks with the reservation links get posted. There will most likely be a special rate for Mega Do'ers, the hotels will know who the Mega Do attendees are (so they know what rooms get the special amenities), and most importantly, the Mega Do gets credit for those rooms. If we don't prove to the hotel partners that we made it worth their while to host us, they may not be as anxious to extend a warm welcome at future Mega Do's.
It has never been a requirement thus far that you must book your Do hotels through the official booking links in order to participate in the Do, but it is highly recommended for these reasons (and it might have been a condition for Diamond status on Star Mega Do 3 -- can't remember).
And the rates will almost definitely be cheaper than you can get through normal booking methods. As an example, at the launch party the rooms we were booked in were $100 cheaper than the rate for a class below our room class.
