That's one way to look at it. The way I look at it, is that if I travel often enough, and take only the 2cpm offers, I can "buy" a business class r/t to Asia or Australia for around $3k, which is sometimes half the usual price.
I know many people would never pay $3k for any airline ticket under any circumstances, but if I spread the expense out over a year or two, it doesn't seem so bad. Plus I get extra FF miles in Oneworld for the purchase.
At worst I might not be making the best use of the money, but I don't consider myself a sucker.
(and, btw, you can buy EQM with CO's version of accelerator, but it's really a terrible deal, and unless you just need 1-2k EQM for status in a hurry, it's a waste)
