I live in the Upper Mississippi Valley, have for 40 years. We get pretty much everything winter can throw at a driver. My last "snow tires" were on a car in the 1970's. Never made me spin out. I remember in the Pacific Northwest in the 60's we always carried chains in the winter. Due to the prevalence of ice storms I think.
