I find this statement absolutely incredulous. Yes, benefits are important. GP passport members value free internet, breakfast, and bonus points. But I find no reason to believe that yanking away coffee/tea will deter people from staying at this property.
There are very few major chains (I can't think of any off the top of my head) that offer free coffee/tea through in-room dining to their guests with elite status. Not SPG, not Hilton, not Marriott, not IC......
