Guy Betsy, could you post a trip report on your CX 839 flight ?!! i'm very interested in knowing what happens on a CX plane when it's only an hour from HKG and gets diverted. what happens to the pax on the plane once the plane lands @ the diverted airport etc. the closest i came to flying in during a typhoon is coming in 1 day before T9 was put up in 1997. AC007 which left a few hours before your flight also got diverted to TPE too.
