I definitely recommend Discover for anybody traveling to China. You can use it at any UnionPay merchant (in short-far wider acceptance) and there is no risk of the forced DCC that's plagued Visa/MC users over here so much.
In the past I was reluctant to recommend it due to FX fee, but now that's gone, I'm going to be telling more people about it.
+1 on this. When I lived in China, I often wanted to use my Discover card, but that fee kept me from doing so...so I just used my Schwab card. Now that that card is ending, Discover and Unionpay's agreement makes traveling back to China a whole lot easier. ^^
