Remember in 07 they tacked on that $60 vehicle tax?? Well the roads are still crap, and the TTC hasn't improved its service. VIVA/YRT actually has better service than TTC.
That was the year we moved to Newmarket, and the reason was the vehicle fee (in addition to all the other "fees" Toronto added in the last few years). There was no way that on top of the provincial registration fees, we were gonna pay an extra $240 to register our four vehicles.
How about the additional land transfer tax on a Toronto home purchase?
Most of the vehicle tax probably went into adding bike lanes to the roads.
You probably also notice a reduction in your auto insurance rate for having a Newmarket residence address.
It is nice up your way; kind of like the Toronto I remember when I was growing up.
BTW they did find gravy at Toronto City Hall, it is on the poutine in the cafeteria.
