I got my own back (in my head at least) by buying four very heavy magazines airside.
Was not very happy to see lots of people on flight with large carry on bags plus laptops plus handbags when I had put everything into one bag and suffered for it.
Next time wear a Barbour jacket with "poachers pockets" and load them up with heavy stuff from your bag and then take the stuff out of the pockets and put it back in your bag when you have run the check in gauntlet. You can also stick stuff in the waistband of your trousers, round your neck with string under your shirt and anywhere else you can think of. I am only half joking here ...
