Yeah I posted that to the AA forum but since this was a purely LAN question I posted here.

Good point on the lost baggage part. I will build in plenty of time to check in again in MIA both ways.

Yes they are separate tickets due to me using BA miles for the flights to and from Easter Island.

It would also make sense to check in the "normal" way so they can give lounge passes to us.
