BNA on Monday, about 8 a.m.: They have installed the Avatar system here, and they were directing everyone through the MMW machines. All WTMD's were blocked off with no possibility of SDOO. I opted out, insisted on seeing my belongings. My frisker waited with me while my bag got the slowest most meticulous search ever. One week earlier at the same airport the bag was kicked out without so much as a ETD. Monday it was very dangerous looking. It eventually cleared as it always does.
The frisker began is speech and he could see I was familiar with the process. I told him almost word for word what he was going to say, he smiled and gave be a cursory frisk. Gloves came up clean. (I am seriously beginning to suspect that the main reason they rub us down is to get a sample for the ETD. Finding something on our body is a goal but not the primary one.)
BTW, the Avatar system is a lot faster, but still considerably slower than WTMD so lines were backed up at this busy time.
I may surrender to this new system while opting out of non-Avatar and all BSX systems. I still have not decided.
I did not watch a lot of the pat downs as I was watching my stuff, but I did see one guy get his watch checked. The operator took his arm and looked under the watch. Odd.
