I believe that the 72 hour reconfirmation rule (for international flights) is still on the books, but I've never once heard about it being enforced since around 2005. In 03 or so, I was lectured by CZ in Bangkok for not telling them that I actually wanted to fly on the ticket that I'd purchased. This marked the turning point in my relationship with CZ.
