I haven't noticed "thicker" - indeed, Wendy's always had thicker fries than BK or McD's and that was always to my taste. Otherwise, pretty much.
They're not my thing; I prefer the old-school semi-squishy, non-over-starched ones. Jack in the Box started the over-starched crispy fries thing back in the mid-1990s, then BK, then Carl's, and as of a year or so ago, Wendy's. I'm not sure which one started adding a bit of skin (mainly on the ends), but while potato skin is a good thing
usually I've yet to see a fast food execution of it where it's a win.
