I just completed a car redemption in HNL for 5 days, after the elite 30% discount, I had a redemption value of 3CPM.
I redeemed at Hertz.
Hertz viewed it as a prepaid third party voucher so no Gold benefits or gold line.
I did pay taxes, around $20 and a HI surcharge of $30?? BS!
So $50 out of pocket.
I am a firm believer that car rentals are a good use for AA miles redemption.
