ewww the Ford -v- Chevy, Coke -v- Pepsi question

Sadly 15-20 min in the store on each device isn't going to answer a months long or even a 2 year long commitment question.
It seems everyone has an iPhone/Droid so support is almost always a step away. Both phones have spotty exchange support though IMHO the iPhone has better 3rd party support for exchange. Of course nothing beats a WinMo phone for exchange support...
Geek factor IMHO is what drives people to Droids, as already mentioned you can mod your Droid 9 ways to Sunday. All or most of which unlocks and un 'brands' the phone. Yeah there is a lack of 'fart' apps on the Droid but the Apple App store still smokes the amazon and Google app store. Granted Amazon does give away a free paid app a day

A nice thing with the Droid is most roms include a wifi app to 'share' your phones 'internet' connection free of charge. We won't get into the ethics or legalities of this as it is like asking someone about religion, politics, BBQ or sweet/un-sweet tea
In the end both phones are great phones and you can't go wrong with either one.
