If they had to charge to meet the law, they could just charge $1 since they are obviously allowed differential charging ( compare costs between regular, gold, platinum, exp )

I am dying laughing.
A law re AC memberships.
Right!!!
Same law that says you cannot get a full can of soda.
Same law that says you will pay 100.00 to go stand by on AA come Jan.1
Same law that says use it or lose on non ref tkts on AA.
Same law that requires management to mismanage their affairs so they can beg the US Congress for another bailout.
Same law that requires Advantage members to pay a fee for an award if not booked 21 days out.
Same law that requires AA to close a number of Admiral Clubs.
Same law that requires AA to close most of their city ticket offices.
same law that requires AA to remove waivers and favors.
Same law that requires AA to charge 20.00 dollars for a paper ticket.
Gotta love "the law"
The reference to the law prohibiting complimentary memberships may have had some basis in fact at one point: At one time, didn't Admirals Clubs have free booze? If so, there probably are some juristictions that would prohibit a free membership that includes alcohol. But now that they charge, it's a moot point.
