Well, if you replace the subway with a bus or taxi (to Hongqiao Stn), it is an okay plan. The direct buses that mosburger entail significantly less hassle (i.e. no need to deal with train station), but if you're dying to try the train just for the thrill of it, then maybe the hassle could be justified.

PVG-Hangzhou bus schedule

Bus #1 to Hongqiao Stn/Airport operates every 15-25 minutes according to this page. Meanwhile, there are tons of trains between Hongqiao and Hangzhou.
