I'm on a B fare which would mean 8 credits, each way. However, Air Canada took 16 credits yesterday when my AC33 cleared. I thought they might have released some "R" on the return flight, but still showing Waitlisted.

I am pretty certain each leg is 8 credits. Should I assume AC will return the 8 credits in the event my AC34 doesn't clear?

When you are on the waitlist, your credits are taken. You can always call in to the concierge and check to see if more R has been released. Sometimes the waitlist clears, but your status remains waitlisted as some agents dont clean up the booking properly.
