There is a Nexus lane to the right that takes you to the front of the security line.
Past that was Immigration and Customs, and that's where there was a NEXUS lane (marked "VIP"). The agent was processing a couple, which took a very long time and seemed to involve considerable discussion, paper shuffling, stapling, stamping, foisting of webcam by agent, even more discussion, paper shuffling, stamping, and stapling. More than six people were processed in the lane next to me while I waited, and the couple's processing had been underway when I arrived.
This happens when there's nobody in the Nexus line and the agent processed someone from the general queue. You just have to accept it as bad timing.
