It sucks, but having two claims on two airlines at the same time for different flights may affect their decision to pay out.
Have you considered getting some of those TSA approved luggage locks. The agents can easily open the locks with a universal key but the baggage people shouldn't be able to.
Mine is minor but could have been worse. I have a lot of electronic items, most of which end up in my checked bag so I am accustomed to opening my bag when I get to my destination and finding a TSA inspection card. This last trip, I noticed they did not put the lock back on. Nothing was missing and I haven't reported it (not even sure how, or whether it's worth it). I travel twice a month and this is the first time this has happened.
Small items I can understand, but a suit? Can't imagine someone didn't notice a suit remaining on the table after an inspection. If it was in the bag to begin with, I don't think it was an accident that it didn't remain in the bag...
