Nice to get the free night after spending $40,000, but good luck actually using it...

I have tried to use this several times. It appears posted in my account, but when I contact SPG to use it, they have no clue about it. I even had to provide my account login and password once so they could see it for themselves.

When advising them that I had 'earned a free night after spending 40k', it was like I was speaking gibberish to them....They just had no clue....It took well over an hour for them to track down the supposed code for it...And that was EACH time I contacted them trying to use the free night....

But then check this out....I couldn't even use it! I finally found a Level Four hotel that I was interested in staying at on a week-end (which is not easy and they will not let you 'top this up' in any way to a level 5....), which was the Westin Trillium at Blue Mountain near Collingwood, Ontario. So, after an hour figuring out how to give me my free weekend night, verifying that it was a Level 4, they tell me that "THIS HOTEL ONLY ALLOWS A TWO-NIGHT BOOKING". OK, fine, I will pay cash or use points for the other night, BUT NO, they will not let me do that either. Catch-22. Only option is to pay cash for both nights or use points for both nights, but this property won't let you book a one night stay period, even if you have a so-called free weekend night award.

My conclusion from the above, is that the so-called free weekend night can very hard to use, to the point where mine will probably expire UNUSED! Thanks very much SPG for the wonderful offer.
