On a recent flight, I was too full after the main course and asked if I could have cheese and dessert after a couple of hours. No problem - asked them for it after a quick nap and they plated it for me, got me new cutlery, tablecloth etc. and did the service.
The new service is definitely a downgrade. I was on EK 226 SFO-DXB on July 1st:
1. No bread choice at all. All they had was "trilogy bread". No garlic bread etc. Even good old UA could offer a choice of 3-4 breads. No Indian bread (naan) etc available with the Indian meal (available as a normal menu choice and also as a special meal).
2. The canapes are gone now too. Now they are "warming" the nuts.
3. I did not know about the new cake/fruit or cheese option. I fell asleep.
4. I was also on a connecting flight to CCU on July 3rd, with breakfast service. Gone are all the bread choices again. Just one type of roll. No more muffins etc.
This is pathetic on the part of EK. It looks they are on a big cost cutting move.
I love how some people will think this is a good thing in that the meal service is quicker and more efficient. Why not just let the pax decide ? (FYI our meal service continued for 3 hours after departure - so it really wasn't that quick).
The crew was great but the EK can keep the new enhancements.
Time to move on. EK has outlived their usefulness to me.
