I am not sure what you mean by a "German Rail Pass". The German railroad offers discount cards and regional and national tickets. So, for example, you could buy a Bayern-Ticket (€21 for a single or €29 for up to five people) that is valid for one day. You can use this ticket to go to Salzburg (in Austria) and, if you return the same day, pay only €21 (or €29 if you are travelling with others).
