I some cases the fees make no sense. There should be more reasonable fees and some execeptions.
Earlier this year I got hit with like $75 x 2 in change fees when I cut Egypt out of travel plans because of the U.S. State Dept. warning and re-routed to RGN. It was like we don't care if the U.S. State Dept. does not want you to get killed in Egypt.
A lot of the seats open up in the last 10 days, and Swiss generally does not open up first class seats from the US until 3 days before departure. In exceptional circumstamces the close in change fee should not apply, or a modest cost covering fee should apply.
