It definitely does keep a record of your preferred (excuse the pun) partner - it's under View Account (should be on the right side of the screen when logged in) and then Travel Preferences (the first option) underneath your saved AWD.
Not for me! I just logged in, went to Travel Preferences, didn't see it, thought maybe it was because I hadn't put one in yet, but clicked Edit, and it's still not there. This is all I see:

www.avis.com. (I want to make sure you're not using a different site, say, for a different country or whatever. It says you're in Australia, so it's quite likely you've got a different site than I do in the US. And everyone else who posted in this thread seems to be from the US, except for you.)
